The Detert wines are crafted by Tom Garrett, one of the three great-grandsons behind the Detert label. In his youth, Tom (along with his brother John and cousin Bill) got his start in winemaking while helping the family make small batches of Cabernet Franc at home in the garage. But his career in the wine industry really began in 1999 when he joined Turley Wine Cellars in St. Helena to learn the craft as a cellar hand. From there, he spent 15 years working with exceptional winemaking mentors at some of Napa Valley’s finest wineries including Joseph Phelps, Robert Mondavi and Revana Family Vineyards. Since 2013, Tom has focused solely on Detert Family Vineyards and his other Napa Valley-based winery, Dakota Shy. Tom lives in Napa Valley with his wife and three boys.

Passionate about the family winegrowing legacy and being close to the soil, John takes great pleasure in sharing the Detert wines with friends and family. In the early days of Detert, John could be found at the vineyard regularly pouring our wines for visiting customers. John lives in Petaluma with his wife and family and is still at the vineyard at every opportunity.

Bill’s love for Detert Vineyard started in his childhood with wonderful memories of exploring the property, raucous home winemaking parties and festive holiday meals accompanied by early Napa Valley wines. He's grateful that the business of winegrowing involves similar experiences and rewards. Bill lives in Petaluma, CA with his wife and three girls.

Domenick Bianco is the principal of Bianco Winegrowing, overseeing more than 600 acres of Napa Valley’s most respected estates, with a focus on organic practices and long-term site stewardship. A third-generation California farmer, Domenick discovered viticulture at UC Davis and began his wine career in 2008 as an intern at Etude Winery. Known for his quiet drive, hands-on approach, and deep connection to the land, he brings humility and rigor to his leadership—honed through senior roles managing diverse sites for Kathryn Hall Winery and serving as Vineyard Manager at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. In 2022, he acquired and rebranded Michael Wolf Vineyard Services as Bianco Winegrowing. Domenick works closely with the Detert team to fine tune quality through vine balance and soil health. Domenick lives in Napa with his family.
